The year 2000 saw the birth of the company Pamio Design, a professional studio run by Roberto, Paolo and Matteo Pamio. Founded to support the historical architect’s studio of Roberto Pamio, the project developed over time to become one of the most state-of-the-art companies in the Italian applied design scene.
The successful career of Roberto Pamio, an outstanding figure in the Italian and International design scene, can be traced back to the origins of his work, when he took his first steps in the field of industrial design, interior design and lighting. These fields can therefore be seen as points of departure for the designer, serving as his launch pad for the development of innovative projects in the fields of architectural and applied design.
Proportion, technology and aesthetics are the three essentials that characterise the projects undertaken by Pamio Design, a hotbed of talent where professional spirits work with an eye towards the future, never forgetting the importance of the traditions of the past. Thanks to this operative synergy, the studio has completed many projects in the lighting field, forging partnerships with some of the biggest national and international names. These include the Alessi, Fabbian, Artemide, Antonageli and Oty Light brands. One example of the linearity and grand geometric conception of the Pamio design studio is the Fabbian Cubetto, a lighting system which has now become part of the top design heritage and icons of Italian production.
When the concept of design was first introduced into the field of lighting it was also applied to the world of furniture in the same period, and in this context the designers of the studio skilfully made innovative choices which focused on introducing new generation materials and techniques. These included sustainable technologies, the use of alternative materials such as carbon and an all contemporary perspective of the lines they created.
The result of these projects led the studio to forge prestigious partnerships with important companies in the furniture and interior design sectors. Excellent examples of Pamio Design’s perspective applied to the creation of spaces are the Plaza Hotel in Ljubljana and the headquarters of the Italian consulate in St Petersburg. In both these places the elements that catch the eye of the attentive beholder most are the purity of the forms used and the architect’s desire to implement an environmental design with a limited impact, but an undoubtedly welcoming effect. On one hand, the Plaza Hotel in Ljubljana resembles a contemporary building but is inspired by the strength of materials linked to tradition, and on the other, the Italian consulate in St Petersburg reveals the desire to breathe life into spaces where wood becomes the protagonist and blends in with the environment created to provide maximum liveability.
The one element that characterises the projects undertaken by Pamio Design is undoubtedly his wish to create bright spaces from any viewpoint. Indeed, the areas designed feel spacious and are presented as places animated by a natural light. This is thanks to the structural decisions made and the materials used, which favour natural wood and transparent elements that are capable of conveying as much light as possible. All of this is Pamio Design, a company that operates in the present, but tends to project itself towards a future based on wellbeing. An icon of the desire to safeguard for tomorrow the resources available to us today.
